How to remember the 6 times table

  1. 1

    6 × n is 5 × n plus one more n: 6 × 7 = 35 + 7 = 42.

  2. 2

    A trick for even numbers: 6 × 2 = 12, 6 × 4 = 24, 6 × 6 = 36, 6 × 8 = 48. The answer ends in the number you multiply by, and the tens digit is half of it.

  3. 3

    The 6 times table is the 3 times table doubled: 3 × 7 = 21, so 6 × 7 = 42.

  4. 4

    Order doesn’t matter: 6 × 9 = 9 × 6 = 54. Learn a fact once and you know two — and you already know part of this table from the others.

  5. 5

    Division is multiplication backwards: 54 ÷ 6 = 9, because 6 × 9 = 54. Learn to multiply and division comes free.
