About the game

What is Math Race?

A cartoon race where your runner moves on arithmetic. Every gate is a math problem with three lanes of answers. Step into the right one and your runner speeds up. Get it wrong and they faceplant into the sand — and the game shows the correct answer right away.

Play in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer, or install it as an app.

Is it free?

Yes. You can play for free, with no limit on the number of races.

Later we’ll add extra runners for a small price, and ads — only between races, never in the middle of one.

Do I need an account?

No. No email, no password. Your records and streak are stored on your device. A nickname is only needed for the leaderboard — and only if you want to be on it.

What modes are there?

Race — 12 gates against the clock. Endless — run until you crack all three egg-lives. Daily challenge — one track for the whole world and one official attempt; problems gradually get harder, from Easy to Genius.

What difficulty levels are there?

Easy — addition and subtraction up to 10, plenty of time to think. Normal — + and − up to 20, multiplication up to 5. Hard — all four operations, + and − up to 100, times tables and division up to 10. Genius — + and − up to 1000, tables up to 12 and turbo speed.

Custom — choose the operations, the number ranges and how much thinking time you get.

Who wins — the faster one or the more accurate one?

Correct answers count first; time only breaks a tie. So guessing at full speed doesn’t pay off: a ghost that answers correctly will overtake you.

Learning and benefits

What age is it for?

Easy works once a child knows the digits and can count within 10 — usually around age 6–7. Reading isn’t required: the race itself is just numbers. Little ones are better off running together with an adult at first.

Grown-ups who want to wake their brain up — try Hard and Genius.

Does it really help with mental math?

The game trains quick recall of basic facts: 7 + 5, 6 × 8, 56 ÷ 7. When they come to mind instantly, your head is free for harder problems — fractions, equations, multi-step word problems.

Short but regular practice works best. That’s why a race takes under a minute, the daily challenge refreshes every day, and the streak flame reminds you to come back.

To be honest: Math Race is a speed-and-accuracy trainer, not a textbook. Explaining why multiplication works is still a job for a teacher or a parent.

How do I practise just the times tables?

Pick the Custom level, turn on only multiplication (and division, if you like) and tables up to 5, 10 or 12. Picking a single table, like just the 7s, isn’t possible yet.

Can a whole class play?

Yes. The daily challenge is the same for everyone, so the whole class can run the same track and compare results. Or a teacher runs a race and sends the challenge link: students get exactly the same problems. Nobody needs to sign up.

Is it safe for kids?

There’s no chat, no private messages and no sign-up. The leaderboard only shows a nickname the player makes up (offensive nicknames are filtered) — we suggest not using a real name.

Ads, once they arrive, will only appear between races. What we collect and why is in our privacy policy.

Challenges, ghosts and leaderboards

How do I challenge a friend?

After a race, tap “Challenge a friend” and send the link to any messenger. Your friend gets the same track, the same problems and your ghost running alongside. Nothing to install — the game opens right away.

What is the ghost?

It’s your best race on that level — it runs next to you, see-through, and stumbles exactly where you stumbled. Beat the ghost and you’ve beaten your own record.

How does the leaderboard work?

The leaderboard is for the daily challenge: one track for everyone each day and one official attempt. More correct gates ranks higher; on a tie, the faster run wins. Add a nickname to get listed. You can also check yesterday’s board.

What are the flame and freezes?

The flame is your streak of days in a row. To keep it burning, finish at least one race of any kind each day. Every 7 days in a row earns a freeze (you can hold up to two) — it saves your streak if you miss a day.

You can turn on reminders: at most once a day, no sign-up needed. On iPhone they only work in the installed game.

App and data

How do I install it on my phone?

No App Store or Google Play needed. On Android and computers, tap “Install the game” on the home page or in the game’s settings. On iPhone and iPad, in Safari: Share → Add to Home Screen → Add.

The installed game opens from its icon, works offline and updates itself.

Does it work offline?

Yes, after the first visit. Only the leaderboard, progress transfer and reminders need a connection — everything else just works.

How do I move my progress to another device?

Settings → “Transfer progress” → “Get a code”. Enter the code on the other device (it’s valid for 30 days). Records, streak, nickname and purchases move over; whatever is already there won’t be overwritten.

Same thing if you played in the browser and then installed the game with an icon.

What data do you collect?

As little as possible. There are no accounts. We count anonymous statistics — how many races, on which level, where players quit — to make the game better. In the EU, UK and Switzerland only with your consent; elsewhere you can turn statistics off in settings.

All the details are in our privacy policy.

How do I turn off the music?

Settings → Music. The ostrich won’t be offended. Much.
