How to remember the 5 times table

  1. 1

    Answers end in 0 or 5: an even number × 5 ends in 0, an odd one in 5.

  2. 2

    5 × n is half of 10 × n: 5 × 8 = 80 ÷ 2 = 40.

  3. 3

    Use a clock: the minute hand on 7 means 35 minutes, so 5 × 7 = 35.

  4. 4

    Order doesn’t matter: 5 × 6 = 6 × 5 = 30. Learn a fact once and you know two — and you already know part of this table from the others.

  5. 5

    Division is multiplication backwards: 30 ÷ 5 = 6, because 5 × 6 = 30. Learn to multiply and division comes free.
